Vortex in Nikitsch – dispute over second homes: demonstration against the local chief

Date:

In Nikitsch, an ÖVP city council doubts the correctness of the electoral roll. The SPÖ mayor rejects everything.

The Nikitsch district has 730 inhabitants. However, 1,044 people are allowed to vote in municipal elections. The reason for this is the large number of second houses on the electoral roll. In comparison, in the presidential elections a week later, only 589 citizens are allowed to go to the polls.

ÖVP city councilor Franz Fazekas doubts that everything is going well: “For 30 years, not all citizens have been treated equally when it comes to granting voting rights for second residents in Nikitsch.”

As an example, he mentions the fact that about four people with a second home were on the provisional voter list, while they had already sold their house in Nikitsch a year ago. They were only removed at the initiative of the ÖVP. Fazekas also criticized the lack of comprehensible research into second homes. For the ÖVP city council, there is a suspicion of abuse of office by SPÖ mayor Christian Balogh. Fazekas therefore submits a statement of fact to the public prosecutor.

Weekly commuters as a second home
The criticism of SPÖ mayor Christian Balogh is strongly rejected. “We do everything correctly.” The four people mentioned have already been removed from the electoral register. Balogh explains the high number of second homes of the many weekly commuters who had to register in Vienna because of the parking sticker. “But you still have family or homes in Nikitsch and support clubs, so you can vote,” says the local boss.

About the presentation of the facts by ÖVP city councilor Fazekas, the mayor says: “If he wants to make a name for himself and not work for the community, that’s his business.” Fazekas has already reported the community several times .
