Caetano Veloso, Coelho and culture, in favor of Lula

Several Brazilian artists have recorded a song called “Vira, vira voz” (“change, change the vote”) that went viral

A group of Brazilian figures of art and culture, led by the singers Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa, launched a video this Friday through social networks expressing their support for Lula da Silva ahead of the next Sunday’s presidential elections in Brazil. Denise Fraga, Daniela Mercury, Nando Reis, Mart’nália, Drica Moraes, Cissa Guimaraes, Alinne Moraes, Claudia Abreu, Zezé Polessa and Bruno García recorded a song entitled ‘Vira, vira voz’ (‘change, change the vote ”) which went viral.

The lyrics are about looking into the future, giving the kids a pencil and taking their gun. They also invite you to change the voice of María and José, of the boss and the baker, the father and the daughter, and to spread the change of government on social networks. The video shows the protagonists imitating a gesture made famous by Bolsonaro, which involves him wielding a gun. The artists turn it around with their fingers and form an L, a clear reference to Lula.

A few days ago, Paulo Coelho, one of the most widely read Brazilian writers in the world, with sales in more than 170 countries and who has been translated into 88 languages, and who is very anti-Bolsonaro, wrote a tweet in which he said: “Less than 2 weeks after the Brazilian elections, I will basically be tweeting in Portuguese, as I need to add my grain of sand to remove the current president from power. Thank you for your patience.”
