The Steyr prosecutor’s office on Monday applied for custody of a 34-year-old suspect who allegedly murdered an escort lady in an apartment in Ternberg over the weekend. The man had sent the woman to his apartment on Saturday via the internet. There must have been a fight. The suspect is said to have murdered the Romanian with mass violence.
A friend of the victim, who was in her twenties, called the police on Sunday because she was concerned and filed a missing persons report. The investigation led to the apartment building in Ternberg. In the afternoon, officials saw a person lying on the ground through a window and called the Cobra task force. The apartment was stormed, the 34-year-old Austrian was arrested without resistance and turned out to have confessed. The investigation was in full swing on Monday. The suspect’s interrogation continued into the afternoon. The results of the autopsy ordered by the public prosecutor were still awaited.
Half of the perpetrators committed suicide
This year, 15 women were murdered by husbands, partners or ex-partners, including a minor (17) by a friend who was a year older. In more than half of these cases, the perpetrators committed suicide. In some investigations, police found evidence of a possible double suicide or desperate act caused by overwhelming the sick partner’s care. The police suspect that four other women were murdered by their own son.
A criminal still on the run
According to the current state of the investigation, in three murders involving female victims, there was no close family connection to the alleged perpetrators. With the most recent murder in Ternberg, this number rises to four. In one case, the perpetrator fled and is therefore unknown. Two women were murdered by other women. In addition, a six-year-old girl died at the hands of her father, who then committed suicide, and a 15-year-old girl was found dead with her mother. The eldest’s partner, who was arrested in France about two weeks ago, is suspected.
