The experienced hunters were amazed: on two consecutive days in St. Georgen am Walde, young wolves fell into traps that were actually intended for young wild boars. The Isegrims are free again.
The wolves are here – and there is no doubt about that in St. Georgen am Walde. Two days in a row, two young Isegrims fell into live traps set for young wild boars and badgers. “One of them was only 20 meters away from an inhabited house. The other at a cattle pasture on the edge of a forest,” says Perg district hunter Ulf Krückl.
“These are probably two different animals, about five months old. We took hair samples for DNA analysis and then ran them again,” explains the hunter. It was already known that a pack lives near the border with Lower Austria. Cracks in the livestock have not yet occurred. “But we have areas where we no longer see deer,” said Manfred Schaurhofer, St. Georgen’s hunting director.
