Nearly 20 Russian recruitment centers have been attacked since Putin’s decreed mobilization

Date:

The last episode came this Monday, when a man shot the person in charge of a recruiting office

Growing unrest among the Russian population over the partial mobilization of reservists proclaimed by Vladimir Putin to bolster the invasion of Ukraine has led to a wave of attacks on recruitment centers. According to the newspaper ‘Mediazona’, which was declared a foreign agent by the Kremlin, most of the fires were caused by the launch of Molotov cocktails. In recent days, 17 recruitment offices have been burned down.

The last episode of this wave of violence took place last Monday. The commissioner in charge of one of these centers was injured after a man shot him. The events took place in the Russian city of Ust-Ilimsk, in the Siberian region of Irkutsk.

The governor of Irkutsk, Igor Kobzev, has stated in a message on his Telegram account that “a young man shot into a military registration and recruitment office” and added that a commissioner identified as Alexander Elisiv is “in critical condition” . “The attacker has been arrested immediately and will be punished,” he said.

The gunman identified himself as 25-year-old Ruslan Zinin in a video posted on social media.

“What happened doesn’t cross my mind. I am ashamed that this is happening at a time when we should be united. We should not fight against each other, but against the real threats,” said Kobzev, who has ordered “strengthening security measures.” “I ask everyone to keep calm,” he emphasized.

For its part, the Irkutsk Commission of Inquiry has indicated that a case has been opened against the 25-year-old detainee and has reported that “an investigation team is on the scene,” the Russian agency said. . “The suspect is being questioned. The motives for the crime are being elucidated,” he concluded.

Putin framed the decision to declare a “partial mobilization” in the country as part of “the necessary and urgent measures to protect Russia’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity” and warned that Moscow will use “all means” in case of “threat to the territorial integrity» of Russia. “It is not a bluff,” he said.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, for his part, explained that nearly 300,000 reservists will be called up and has indicated that this “partial mobilization” will affect 1.1% of the country’s mobilization resources.

As the seed of unrest among the Russian population grows, Putin’s inner circle is closing even more distances with his president. Kremlin propagandist Solovyov in his program denounced the thousands of civilians who rose up against the regime and even suggested that those responsible for the demonstrations be shot, according to the Censor.net newspaper.
