A business plane had to make an emergency landing at Salzburg airport on Monday morning shortly after takeoff. The door of the plane had opened.
The plane landed back on the runway four minutes later. No one was injured in the incident. A private user’s Cessna Citation XLS was on its way to Germany.
At about 8.50 am, the twin-engine plane with Austrian registration number left for the north. According to eyewitness accounts, the door was open and protruding from the trunk. “The pilot noticed the defect immediately after takeoff, radioed the tower, flew a loop and landed safely,” Austro Control spokesman Markus Pohanka confirmed the incident. After reaching the runway landing, the machine rolled back to the hangar under its own power.
No passengers on board
According to Pohanka, it was a so-called “return landing”. Air traffic controllers initiate corresponding procedures with other aircraft queuing or being diverted on approach. As Austro Control confirmed, there were two pilots but no passengers aboard the machine.
