Wolfgang Bauer from Donnerskirchen feels abandoned by the government. The costs are much higher than the income. He says, “If the support doesn’t come soon, I’m out!”
Of course, motorists are annoyed by the excessively high fuel prices. But what about behind the pump? “If there is no state aid for entrepreneurs soon, I’ll be gone!” says Wolfgang Bauer, who has been renting a gas station in Donnerskirchen since 2012. The 51-year-old has four employees and two part-time employees. “My reserves are exhausted,” said Bauer, calling for help in an open letter. The addressee is the Chamber of Commerce with its departments of petrol stations, transport, traffic, gastronomy and trade.
90,000 euros more for electricity
According to Bauer, the trouble started with the first corona lockdown – closed gastro area – and found a shocking sequel with the petrol price ceiling in Hungary. “It is only logical that Hungarian commuters refuel at home and no longer like we used to.”
Bauer’s contract with Energie Burgenland expires on September 30, he does not sign the new offer – instead of 15,384 euros per year, he would then have to pay 60,723 euros. “With this two-year contract, that is a total of 90,000 euros more. At the same time, I could also sign my bankruptcy application,” says Bauer, who prefers to opt for “an even more expensive rate” in the medium term so that he can get out at any moment. the government meanwhile realizes that we are being driven to ruin. And yes, I am not an isolated case!”
