In St. Georgen am Walde in Upper Austria, many parents worry that they won’t let their children go outside alone at night. The reason is that two wolves were trapped over the weekend. The mayor saw the first of the young Isegrims.
“Right now you’re looking a little,” admits Mayor Heinrich Haider of St. Georgen am Walde to the “Krone” phone — because he was the first to see a captive wolf over the weekend. He was in the wild boar trap right next to his house.
“He was pretty tired”
“I heard him, he jumped and scratched, trying to get out of the trap. He was already quite tired and gave in like a dog when I went to him,” reports the local manager. Some hunters were quickly gathered, everyone knows for sure: “A wolf!”
After a sample was taken by the wolf commissioner of the state of Upper Austria, the animal was allowed to run again and the next day the next young animal was trapped barely two kilometers away.
“You have to take this seriously”
“There are already concerned people in the community, especially parents of small children, who don’t let them walk alone anymore. You have to take that seriously,” says the mayor, who now wants to make citizens aware of the subject of wolves with the hunters’ association and the school, but does not want to sow panic. “So far there have been no tears from farm animals, but the deer that are there usually are, are gone.”
