The European Union believes that leaks in gas pipes Nord Stream 1 and 2, connecting Russia and Central Europe via the Baltic Sea, are due to “deliberate acts”and has warned it will respond in a “united and solid” manner if its theory is proven.
In a joint statement, EU countries expressed concern about the incident and consider it an act of sabotage. In the statement, it ensures that all available information “indicates that the leaks are the result of an intentional act” and is therefore committed to any investigation that sheds light on what happened.
“Any intentional disruption of Europe’s energy infrastructure is absolutely unacceptable and will have a solid and unified responsehe warned, adding that safety and environmental concerns are “top priority”, and these incidents “are no coincidence” and affect all Europeans.
The Danish authorities have discovered a gas leak in one of the sections, in Bornholm. Hours later, the underwater gas pipeline detected a pressure drop affecting the two lines of the pipeline.
Denmark believes that “it is hard to imagine” that the gas leaks are “accidental”, a theory that Poland also endorsed. Russia does not rule out any option. In that sense, seismologists from Sweden have confirmed explosions in the area hours before.
