Fire brigade in action – flames on Katschberg: gas bottle burned

Date:

Fierce flames on Wednesday evening at Katschberg in Carinthia worried some “Krone” readers. A gas cylinder suddenly caught fire on a construction site.

Construction workers raised the alarm around 9 p.m. when a propane bottle that had been outside caught fire. “In the first phase, we had to contend with strong, open flames near the valve,” reports Peter Kircher, commander of the municipal fire brigade at Rennweg am Katschberg. Together with the troops of the FF St. Peter/Oberdorf and the Katschberg fire brigade, the fire was beaten out of cover.

Improvised cooler built
After the flames were extinguished, the temperature of the gas cylinder was checked with a thermal imager. It was then safely placed in a provisionally created basin for further cooling. “We waited a little longer at the construction site to check things out,” Kircher says. Other than the broken gas cylinder, there was no further damage or even injuries.
