Dangerous rally on the public road: 29 car freaks thundered at speeds of up to 235 kilometers per hour through the Burgenland district of Oberwart. The police were able to arrest a Porsche driver, the other speeders fled across the border to Hungary.
The will to take risks and a brutal cat-and-mouse game with the police ensure that car enthusiasts step on the accelerator unbridled. Speed fighters from the Netherlands and Belgium got this dangerous adrenaline rush during the five-day Ramble Rally, which continues through Europe to this day.
Man in Porsche too fast
The Oberwart highway police inspectorate attacked 29 participants during their hellish drive from the Schachendorf border crossing along the B63 in the direction of Großpetersdorf. The first speeder to fall into the speed trap was a Porsche driver. Instead of the permitted 100 km/h, he raced past the law enforcement officers at Rechnitz at 202 km/h.
A manhunt was immediately launched and shortly afterwards the wanted sports car driver was arrested – his Dutch driver’s license has run out! After a fine, the traffic offender’s supervisor was allowed to get behind the wheel and the tour continued.
Blinked at more than 200 km/h
Another 28 cars with Ramble Rally bib numbers raced past the police on the B63 – at speeds of up to 235 km/h! They were unstoppable and uncontrollable, but after evaluating the radar images, the Oberwart district administration reported them. “In eight cases the driving licenses should have been taken immediately,” says the director.
Incidentally, the next date for the almost breakneck Ramble Rally has already been set. In the so-called spring edition from 22 to 26 May 2023, car freaks want to make the streets all over Europe unsafe again. “Sold Out” means in Dutch on the Internet: “Sold Out!”
