After a forced break of two years, Austria’s largest Oktoberfest in the Prater is back to drinking and partying. The “Krone” was there.
The popular traditional festival had to pause for two years, but now you can finally celebrate it again on the Kaiser Wiesn in the Prater. While the original in Munich has to contend with fewer guests and the associated loss of turnover, the Viennese counterpart is still relaxed. Even if there has not yet been a great rush.
The new Wiesn boss Johann Pittermann draws up a first summary in an interview with the “Krone”: “We are very satisfied with the crowds of visitors and the consumption. The first few days exceeded our expectations. But now it really starts!” Despite the challenging economic situation, it was also decided not to adjust the prices, ie to increase them, says Pittermann. We want to offer fair and affordable prices. At the local “Krone” inspection on Wednesday afternoon, almost every seat at the tables in the largest party tent occupied and the atmosphere was exuberantly good.
A pint of beer for 11.80 euros
The specially brewed Kaiser Wiesn beer comes from the Gösser brewery and is available this year for 11.80 euros. While you have to pay up to 14 euros for it at the German neighbors. On the 20,000 square meter area in front of the Ferris wheel, you can drink, eat, dance and wave vigorously until October 9 in three huge tents and five alpine meadows. Admission is free during the day, but partying at night costs money.
