If a 3.5% pay increase for civil servants finally goes through in 2022, the general secretary of ELA believes that they will have lost 20% in purchasing power in 10 years.
In the middle of the debate on the salary increase for civil servants, the ETB1 program “Egun on Euskadi” interviewed the general secretary of ELA this Thursday, Mitxel Lakuntza. Yesterday, Wednesday, the government of Spain proposed to increase government salaries by 8% in three years: 3.5% in 2022, 2.5% in 2023 and 2% in 2024. In this regard, the leader of ELA PNV and EH Bildu summoned to that debate to Madrid.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Azpiazu, stated yesterday that the Basque government cannot raise salaries any more than the Spanish government. Lakuntza has described as an “excuse” and that deep down they don’t want to raise the salaries of civil servants.
“If the problem is that the Spanish government sets limits, why is that not a priority, because there is no confrontation?” he wondered. In addition, he has urged the PNV and EH Bildu to promote the debate in Madrid and demand the approval of the general state budgets.
