Difficult story – father’s drug trade takes over Giorgia Meloni. in

Date:

Italian election winner, Giorgia Meloni, is coming under pressure because of her father’s past. Spanish media reported in 1995 the conviction of Meloni’s late father for drug trafficking in Spain. However, the post-fascist politician who wants to become head of government has had no contact with him since she was 11 years old.

Meloni was criticized by Rula Jebreal, a journalist of Palestinian descent who grew up in Israel and now lives in Italy. “While Meloni is not responsible for her father’s crimes, she often uses the crimes of some foreigners to criminalize all immigrants and label them as a threat to security. In a democracy, there is individual responsibility, not collective blame,” said Jebreal.

“Jebreal’s words are shameful”
These words provoked a violent reaction from the Fratelli d’Italia, who marched out with several MPs in defense of the party leaders, expressing their dismay at what they considered insulting and “unworthy” statements. “Jebreal’s words are shameful. To attack Giorgia Meloni, she uses the personal story of her father, who left her when she was one year old. Meloni was the victim of this man, and today she is also the victim of a journalist without scruples and without ethical boundaries who, to attack her, is ready to exploit a painful story that not only does not touch Giorgia Meloni, but by which she has been harmed in every way,” lamented number two in the FdI, Francesco Lollobrigida.

“It is clear that the election results upset many and led them to take unwarranted positions,” Lollobrigida stressed. He hopes Meloni will take legal action “to protect herself, the party she represents and the millions of citizens who have democratically placed their trust in her”.

Left Meloni at the age of one
The story of Meloni’s father goes back 27 years. In 1995, Francesco Meloni was sentenced to nine years in prison for drug trafficking in the Canary Islands. At the time, the leader of the Fratelli d’Italia had just come of age and for seven years had broken off relations with the father who left her when she was about a year old. Spanish media recently reported on Francesco Meloni’s conviction.
