Street recruitment – Kremlin apparently relies on conscription by announcement

Date:

“All male citizens must urgently come to the military commissariat in Derbent with their passports and military ID cards” – with this announcement in the southern Russian city of Derbent, Moscow apparently wants to call on recruits. The governor of the Russian Republic of Dagestan is so outraged by this procedure that he rages on his cell phone, which bangs on the table when he reports it.

The video recording showing the bizarre recruitment method dates from Thursday. The announcement will be made from a vehicle driving through the city of 120,000 inhabitants. Derbent is located in the Russian Republic of Dagestan on the border with Azerbaijan – a particularly large number of people who died in the war in Ukraine are said to have come from the area. In recent days there have also been repeated protests against the partial mobilization in Derbent.

Politician shouts during meeting: “Who gave them permission?”
Sergei Melikov, one of the governors of the republic, expresses his anger at being summoned through a megaphone. “How could the military of Derbent ask people to report to the design and registration office like this?”, the politician raged during a session of the Dagestan Security Council. “Whose allowed them to drive around town?” He also plays the video clip on his phone. The device finally felt its fury moments later when he threw it on the table with a loud bang.
