After a chase with the police, a towing vehicle with 29 occupants has crashed in the Czech Republic.
At least seven people, including a child, were injured and taken to hospitals, a police spokesman said on Saturday. The rescue workers were on the spot with a large contingent.
Didn’t stop at border control
Coming from Slovakia, the van did not stop at the border control at the Lanzhot crossing. During the ensuing chase, the driver of the towing vehicle is said to have tried to push a police car off the road before losing control at an intersection in Breclav. The van hit two parked cars, a road sign and a house.
According to media reports, the migrants were from Syria. Breclav is located about 230 kilometers southeast of Prague. The Czech Republic temporarily reintroduced border controls with Slovakia on Thursday. This was justified by an increase in illegally arriving migrants on the so-called Balkan route to Western Europe.
