Irrfahrt in Tirol – Relying on navigation: truck got stuck on a forest road

Date:

It happened again: By relying blindly on the navigation system, a truck driver ended up on a narrow forest path in the Tyrolean Wildschönau on Friday afternoon, where the vehicle got stuck through the softened ground and threatened to slip. The fire brigade had to come!

The truck driver was on his way to deliver goods to a mountain inn near the middle station of the Schatzbergbahn – which could actually also be reached via a paved road.

Unfortunately this is happening more and more
But the navigation system first led the man onto the Bernauerweg in the Auffach district, where he then ended up on the forest path. Bernhard Margreiter, the commander of the volunteer fire brigade, was informed of the accident by a farmer shortly after 1 p.m. and moved in with 25 men and three vehicles.

“It was fortunate that nothing more happened on the softened ground. The truck got stuck and luckily didn’t crash into the adjacent steep forest. A border situation, we couldn’t drive up with heavy equipment, we couldn’t have put up a crane,” explains Margreiter.

Truck safely back to the village
The heavy vehicle was eventually secured with two hoists. “One of my ‘manders’ then drove the truck safely back to the village, where the truck driver took over again,” the commander said.

“Again such missions”
Does something like this happen often? “Thanks to the navigation system, we always have such operations.” Together with the farmer who owns the forest area and forest trail, they are now considering putting up a warning sign for those who rely too much on their navigation system.
