The police in Paris intervene. Not only are makeshift refugee camps closing time and again, but now the drug scene is also recovering. About 1,000 officers cleared a camp this weekend that housed about 400 addicts, most of them addicted to crack. It is an important step to restore law and order in the capital.
According to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, the so-called “crack camp” in the north of the city was evacuated on his orders. In addition, the police must ensure that the addicts do not resettle in another part of the city.
Five people have been taken to hospital
During the police action, 52 foreign nationals without residence permits were arrested and detained pending deportation. Thirty-nine people have been arrested and will be brought to trial, 63 have been taken to emergency shelters and five have been hospitalized.
The drug scene’s rallying point has been in this location for about a year, having previously moved. He constantly creates discussions, especially among the residents. These insist that the addicts be treated and cared for and that the problem is not just moved from one corner of the city to another. Wherever permanent structures for the addicts have to be built, however, protests also start.
