Words are not enough: because the dog is said to have pinched his child, a hunter from the Liezen district (Styria) went into the woods with the four-legged friend – and killed him! The man confesses, the waves of indignation are high.
In hunting circles, the way an animal is killed with a knife is called “waidmanly bent” – to the layman it is a stabbing. The fact is: it is of course absolutely forbidden to just kill your dog!
But that is exactly what a hunter from the Liezen district is accused of – and also confirmed by the police: “We have received information about this and an investigation has been launched immediately,” said spokesman Markus Lamb. The result: “The suspect has confessed and filed a report.”
Jäger went to court and imposed the death penalty
What he is accused of is baffled. His young dog would have pinched his child’s thigh; pinched, as the police also confirm, “nothing serious happened”. But that’s why the hunter, as a self-appointed judge, imposed the death penalty on the four-legged friend. Lamb: “He claimed to have taken him to a wooded area a few hours after the incident and stabbed him to death there.”
State fighter Franz Mayr-Melnhof also confirms that of the “Krone”, “unfortunately that is all true”. And he hides nothing: “That is to be condemned in the strongest possible terms!” The hunting team in particular sees itself as a dog trainer. Mayr-Melnhof also always emphasizes the good treatment of the animals. “That is of course also a special setback and cannot be justified by anything. If someone has problems with the dog, he can turn to colleagues or trainers, and find another place for the animal. Of course he can’t just kill it.”
Making the incident worse: As Mayr-Melnhof also confirms, it’s a surveillance fighter; in other words, someone who has to ensure that everything in the forest and when dealing with animals runs smoothly.
The suspect – we asked him for an explanation, which he has not done – is being reported to the Public Prosecution Service for animal cruelty and negligent bodily harm to a child. The Upper Styria is also threatened with repercussions from the hunters.
