Three vehicles collided with each other in the vicinity of Mühlboden (Carinthia) on Wednesday evening. Two were seriously injured in the collision. The Drautal trunk road is expected to remain closed throughout Thursday morning.
For unknown reasons, a 27-year-old from Villach drove his car on the Drautal trunk road near Mühlboden into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the car of a 23-year-old. Another car was unable to stop despite an emergency stop and also collided with the two vehicles involved in the accident.
Large contingent of forces
Another driver immediately notified emergency services. The 27-year-old and 23-year-old received first aid from the police until the fire service and the Red Cross arrived. After the firefighters of the voluntary fire brigades Feistritz/Drau, Pobersach and Töplitsch freed the two men with heavy equipment from the wreckage of the accident, they were stabilized by the rescue services and an ambulance and then taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Federal road still closed
Since the vehicle cleaning and the surveying of the accident site can only be done during daylight, the federal road Drautal is still closed. “The blockage of the highway will last until the morning hours,” said the police. A diversion has been put in place via the Feistritz/Drau area.
