A 45-year-old driver collided with a train at a railway crossing in southeastern Styria on Friday afternoon – all help came too late for the man, he died at the accident site.
Unfortunately, this is not the first accident this year. Another driver was killed in Styria on Friday at an unrestricted level crossing.
At about 4.15 pm, the 45-year-old was driving from Leitersdorf towards Lödersdorf (South Styria district). According to the police, the man may have overlooked the red light at a level crossing, was hit by a train and dragged several hundred meters. The driver was trapped in the wreckage and died at the accident site.
According to the Feldbach fire brigade, the wagon and the car were set on fire as a result of the impact. Pedestrians and the train driver were able to contain the fire with fire extinguishers until the arrival of the fire brigade.
There was a passenger on the train who was taken to the hospital just to be safe. But like the driver, he should have been unharmed.
