Next grotesque about Sodexo vouchers: A bedridden pensioner gets her 500 euro climate bonus only if she pays for a power of attorney.
Going to the post office to exchange your climate bonus vouchers for cash can be a barrier. A reader from Upper Austria (name known to the editors) reports: “Two weeks ago I called the tax authorities. There I was told that I would receive the 500 euros on the account that I would also use for my pension. I have now received vouchers. But I’ve had a stroke, I can’t go to the post office!” Redeeming the vouchers while shopping is also not an option: “I’m getting Meals on Wheels, where should I redeem them?”
Power of attorney costs money
A friend would collect the money for you, but you can’t do that without a power of attorney. This costs 20 euros at the post office and can be requested online, which is not an easy task for many elderly people. It costs even more with a notary or lawyer. “I have to pay to get my money, it can’t be,” the reader says.
There is only one postal partner in the community of 10,000 people, people sometimes queue up to two hours a day, sometimes only to have to go back home because they don’t have enough money.
