The first round of the historic presidential elections took place in France on Sunday. According to the first forecast, incumbent Emmanuel Macron is well ahead of right-wing nationalist Marine Le Pen, and as expected, both qualified for the second round in two weeks.

According to forecasts from the Elabe Institute published by BFM TV, Macron got 28.5 percent in the first round, followed by Le Pen with 24.2 percent.
Due to the time difference, some French overseas territories, such as the Caribbean, voted on Saturday. In the rest of France, polls closed at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
