At least 17 people have been killed in a nighttime Russian missile attack on Zaporizhzhya. “As a result of a nighttime rocket attack on Zaporizhzhya, houses and roads in a residential area of the city have been damaged,” Anatoly Kurtev, secretary of the city administration, writes on Telegram. “At the time of writing, 17 people are known to have died.”
Meanwhile, the death toll from a Russian rocket attack in central Zaporizhzhya on Thursday has been cut to 18.
Nuclear power plant by decree under Russian administration
The city of Zaporizhia, controlled by Ukrainian units, is located in the region of the same name, which is also home to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. Moscow annexed the region earlier this week, although it is not completely under Russian forces. By decree, Russian President Vladimir Putin also placed the nuclear power plant under Russian administration on Wednesday.
