According to the president’s office, President Ebrahim Raisi, the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary were also present. In a joint press statement from the president’s office on Sunday, they called on the people to preserve national unity and stand up against the “hostile conspiracies” of the enemies of the Islamic system.
The daily “Shargh” reported on Sunday that two channels of the state broadcaster IRIB had also been hacked. Accordingly, news broadcasts on two channels were briefly interrupted Saturday night and photos were shown of some of the women who died during the protests. The slogan “Get up and join in” was displayed. The group Anonymous, which had already hacked several Iranian authorities in recent weeks, is said to have again been responsible for the hacking.
Police shot protesters with paintball ammunition
According to eyewitnesses, the protests continued on Sunday evening. The willingness to use force therefore increased significantly on both sides. The police not only used tear gas against the demonstrators, but also fired paintball ammunition. The protesters reportedly threw Molotov cocktails at the officers and set fire to mobile police stations. A young driver was reportedly shot in the head during a demonstration in the western Iranian city of Sanandaj. Police said protesters shot him to death, who in turn blamed the police for the death.
After the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in mid-September, countless people demonstrated in Iran. The security forces also used violence against protesters. At least dozens of people have been killed and many more injured in the protests, according to observers.
Baerbock announced sanctions
