By accident, police in South Africa caught a suspected serial killer: Residents of an apartment building warned authorities on Monday about a breathtaking stench coming from an apartment in central Johannesburg. There, officers not only discovered the body of a woman reported missing earlier this month, but five other bodies were also found.
Investigations then led police to a 21-year-old in whose company the woman was last seen. During a subsequent search around the man’s apartment building, officers found five other bodies in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Possibly prostitutes as victims
Forensics should determine whether the dead were also women. According to eyewitnesses, several prostitutes had recently disappeared from the neighborhood.
