A garbage truck was on trial in Vienna on Monday for his Nazi tattoos. He says, “I didn’t know the meaning of the signs.” In addition to the permanent body painting, right-wing chat histories were also found on the mobile phone of the 45-year-old…
“What is your political stance?”, Judge Wolfgang Etl asks right at the start of the hearing. “Very neutral,” said the 45-year-old accused in the Vienna court, but his tattoos on his forearms say something else: swastikas, the black sun and other Nazi symbols and letters.
Police discovered tattoos
A police officer accidentally discovered it when the MA48 employee in a short T-shirt was emptying a garbage can on a hot day in Vienna. The officer addressed the suspect on the sign – the black sun – on the elbow. Then he noticed more.
Viking symbols and a “normal eagle”
But more was found: there were several right-wing images and chats on the mobile phone of the Viennese. “I never associated it with National Socialism,” said the 45-year-old. He doesn’t even want to know what the tattoos mean. To him it would have been just Viking symbols and the Imperial Eagle “just a normal eagle”. He never read the messages and photos and only forwarded them – no confession to Judge Etl.
But he already has a laser appointment to remove the tattoos. But the jury doesn’t believe his ignorance. They sentence the Viennese to 24 months, which is not legally binding, including six months in prison!
