A Japanese space rocket carrying a satellite was destroyed on Wednesday after a false launch. An “anomaly” sent the “Epsilon” rocket into an uncontrollable trajectory, the Jiji news agency reported, citing Japan’s space agency JAXA.
The “Epsilon” rocket first lifted off from the Uchinoura spaceport on Wednesday, but then spiraled out of control, making the trajectory unsafe and ground control signaling self-destruct. It was the country’s first failed rocket launch in nearly 20 years.
It was the sixth flight of this type of rocket and the first to fail. The rocket is designed to launch a multi-platform “Raise 3” satellite to demonstrate innovative space technology in orbit at an altitude of 560 kilometers.
