Annual inflation in Germany rose to 10.0% in September, the highest level since the country’s reunification, mainly due to high energy prices, but also food prices, as reported today by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
The president of Destatis, Georg Thiel, has added that the end of the subsidized ticket at 9 euros and the discount on fuel increased the upward pressure on prices in September.
For example, the consumer price index (CPI), which remained above 7% for seven months, has risen dramatically compared to the 7.9% year-on-year recorded in August.
Excluding the impact of energy and food, inflation would have been 4.6% in September.
