The ELA union has denounced that Siemens-Gamesa is going ahead without clarifying the scope in the centers of Euskadi and Navarra of the adaptation process proposed by the multinational to destroy 475 jobs in the state. For this reason, it has made a formal request to collect more data, as the situation per center is not yet known.
Siemens Gamesa management and the unions have set up a meeting schedule to discuss the company’s workforce adjustments, which were not discussed at the first meeting this Thursday, union sources report.
The management and representatives of CCOO, UGT and ELA held this afternoon at Zamudio headquarters (Bizkaia) the first meeting of an employment roundtable to address the adjustment, which the company announced a week ago, will focus on the offices of Zamudio, Madrid and Sarriguren (Pamplona), with 352 fired in a two-year process.
The rest of the layoffs in Spain, up to a total of 475 planned layoffs, will be 80 temporary workers whose contracts will not be renewed and 43 natural rotational positions.
Union sources have indicated that there is no further specification today of what the centers and positions will be, and that a meeting schedule has been drawn up, common in any negotiation process for a workforce adjustment.
The company’s intent is that the “tools” to implement the adjustment plan will be relocations, early retirements and incentivized layoffs, while unions are considering unwarranted layoffs.
The Zamudio-based wind turbine manufacturer will make an adjustment that provides for approximately 2,900 layoffs worldwide to adapt to market demand.
As ELA reports in a statement, the company is still not clear about the extent of the layoffs in the Euskadi and Navarra centers, nor what the effect of work centers will be. Nor has he provided any specific data that “supports his intentions”.
In order to collect more data, ELA has made a formal request to the company to obtain information that was being dealt with in the European Commission, where this matter was previously addressed. It has also criticized the lack of information “add more tension” about a squad that is in its third process of adaptation in the past four years.
ELA has repeatedly blamed the continued destruction of employment since the “wrong name merger” between Siemens and Gamesa, a situation that “has worsened since the takeover bid by Siemens Energy announced in June”.
In this sense, the union has rejected this new adjustment process proposed by the multinational to destroy 475 jobs in the state and has demanded a “solid” industrial plan that guarantees future employment.
