Russians under pressure – Ukraine has recaptured more than 600 cities

Date:

According to Ukraine, it has recaptured more than 600 cities in the past month. Among them are 75 places in the Kherson region in the south of the country, the Ministry for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories announced on Friday. Nevertheless, Putin’s partial mobilization is putting “tangible pressure” on the Ukrainian military, Zelenskyj says. Meanwhile, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Valery Zaluzhny, said the situation at the front was “complicated but under control”.

The first evacuations from the Kherson region were expected on Friday, as called for by the Russian-appointed governor of the occupied region. Kherson is located opposite the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, and is therefore of particular strategic importance. About 500 cities in the northeastern region of Kharkiv have also been recaptured, according to the Ukrainian ministry. There, Ukrainian troops penetrated far into the Russian lines in September.

Annexation not recognized internationally
43 cities were recaptured in the Donetsk region, seven in Luhansk. “The area of liberated Ukrainian territories has increased significantly,” the ministry said on its website. At the end of September, Russia annexed Kherson, Luhansk and Donetsk along with the Zaporizhzhya region, which is not recognized internationally.

Zelenskyy has accused Russia of sending conscript reservists to Ukraine as “cannon fodder” with its partial mobilization. The Russian military is currently sending “thousands of conscripts to the front,” Zelensky said in his evening video address on Thursday.

Situation is “complicated but under control”
“The use of these people by the Russian generals as cannon fodder allows them to increase the pressure on our defenders,” the Ukrainian leader added. This increase in troops is putting “tangible pressure” on the Ukrainian military, Zelenskyy said. Meanwhile, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Valery Zaluzhny, said the situation at the front was “complicated but under control”.

However, Ukraine is dependent on further aid. “The superiority of the enemy artillery shows the need to increase the firepower of the Ukrainian army,” Zaluzhny said. “The issue of integrated air defense is also essential.”
