The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Spain, louis planesannounced this Monday that the quota for hake caught in the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean will increase this year as Brussels has decided to increase the 4,900 tons originally planned for 2022 up to 9200 tons.

“Today is a special day,” he noted, “because the extension of the available quota for Spain from southern hake, from nothing more and nothing less than the current figure of 4,899 tons, approved last December, to 9,201 tons, that is, more than 84% increase“, the minister stated on his arrival at the meeting of the agriculture and fisheries ministers of the European Union (EU) being held today in Luxembourg.

Planas explained that the European Union has set a limit of 4,899 tons for these marine areas for 2022, but set the figure without sufficient scientific data: “We objected to it last year, saying it was a ‘file’. that was perfectly maintained, where it was perfectly possible to continue fishing. The scientific data, the reports proved us right and so today we can announce that the decision to expand has been passed,” he said.

For example, Brussels has decided to increase the quota to 9,200 tons, an increase that will be especially the fishermen of the Bay of Biscay and the Gulf of Cadiz. benefitaccording to Plans.
