What was intended as a security measure for the schools and kindergartens in Lower Austria ended up in a Weinviertel community with a sales advertisement on the Internet. Taxpayer-paid CO2 measuring devices intended to improve air quality were put up for sale. Fraud or error? The “Krone” knows the details behind the oddity.
“To make daily education even safer during the corona pandemic” – according to a press release – the state of Lower Austria together with the municipalities bought 10,000 CO2 measuring devices about a year ago. The devices were handed over to the municipalities in October 2021. From there, they should be distributed to the respective educational institutions. “CO2 measuring devices quickly show a deterioration in air quality and therefore encourage people to open doors or windows,” state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and state education councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister explain the underlying plan.
In the vast majority of cases this has already been achieved. At the request of the “Krone”, this is also insured in the country. In fact, even a year later, not all devices may have arrived in the kindergarten and school classes. This can also be seen in a particularly curious example from the Weinviertel.
