After a couple from Graz went missing for a few days following a storm in Greece, the body of a woman was discovered on the beach of Pelion on Tuesday morning. According to media reports, this could be the missing newlywed woman from Graz. However, DNA traces are currently being evaluated to obtain more precise information about identity.
“The Austrian Embassy in Athens and the Honorary Consulate in Volos remain in constant contact with the local authorities to provide the best possible support in the search for the missing persons,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
Wedding with 40 guests
The violent storm “Daniel” caused heavy storms in Greece a few days ago. Since then, 32-year-old Michaela from Graz and her husband Philip, who was married locally in Argalasti, have been missing. They had previously celebrated their wedding with 40 guests at the Pelion town hall. After traveling together as a couple, the two never returned.
The water level has dropped again
Emergency services expect more victims from the floods, although flooding in affected areas of central Greece subsided again on Tuesday. For example, the level of the Pinios River was now around eight meters and no longer at the peak of ten meters, as the newspaper ‘Kathimerini’ reported.
Those affected are increasingly speaking out in the Greek media to describe their situation. They actually only had the clothes on, a farmer told the news channel ERTnieuws. “Everything else is broken, the house is destroyed, the fields are flooded, the animals are dead,” the man said in the interview.
