In London, climate activists caused traffic disruption on the M25 city motorway on Monday morning. The reason: Members of “Just Stop Oil” climbed the pillars and suspension cables of the “Queen Elizabeth II Bridge” at Dartford, closing the structure. Traffic was diverted, drivers had to make a 60-minute detour.
The environmentalists of “Just Stop Oil” are demanding that the London government halt all new gas and oil production projects. They are using civil resistance to get the UK government to commit to stopping the licensing and production of new fossil fuels.
Showroom sprayed with orange paint
On Sunday afternoon, the group painted a showroom of luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin in central London (pictured below). Its members also blocked the street where the exhibition space is located with a sit-in.
Canned soup poured on Van Gogh painting
Two days earlier, two activists spilled two cans of tomato soup (see video) over one of Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” paintings at the National Gallery in London, worth an estimated $84 million.
As the museum announced, the two young women’s action caused “slight damage to the frame”, but the world-famous painting, which is protected by a pane of glass, remained “undamaged”.
