Serious accident Wednesday night in Gröbming in Styria: A tower crane suddenly lost its stability, fell over and crashed into two buildings, including an accommodation.
According to the Liezen city fire brigade, the concrete slab under the tower construction crane broke, causing the construction equipment to collapse around 11.30 pm. The mast of the crane broke through the roof construction of the accommodation and damaged it “considerably”, according to the fire service. A carport was also hit by the crane boom and was completely destroyed.

Fortunately, there were no casualties in the devastating incident: the hotel was closed and therefore had no guests. There were no vehicles parked under the carport on the adjacent property. Several people who were in the adjacent residential building narrowly escaped the accident: the building was missed by the falling crane. “So in general one can speak of good luck in the event of an accident,” summed up the city fire brigade.
The fire brigade was on duty with 15 people, rescue workers and the police were also involved.
