Pressure on the British Prime Minister continues to mount, Liz Trussgiven the increase in the number of Conservative MPs who have publicly called for his resignation, added to those who have done so privately.

At least 13 Conservative Party deputies have confirmed in the media and social networks that they do not trust the head of government, in a context that is particularly delicate for the government as a result of the failed economic policy, which led to the departure of the head of finance and of the Minister of Internal Affairs.

Some media estimate that more than 50 MPs, of the 357 Conservatives have in the House of Commons, could have written to the committee’s chairman, Graham Brady, to express their lack of confidence in the leader.

Under the rules of the formation, a motion against the leader can only be filed after a year in office, but Truss could decide to resign if Brady informed her that she had lost the support of the majority of her deputies.

The “Tory” MPs are also not ruling out changing their rules in order to hold that motion earlier, which is normally convened at the request of 15% of their group, currently 54 MEPs.

While many want the prime minister – who took office on September 6 – to leave, others fear it will lead to snap general elections that polls say they would lose. For this reason, they are trying at all costs to find a consensus replacement that could cost the government and the party until the 2024 elections.
