Passers-by and drivers driving on Wienzeile in Vienna’s Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district around 12:30 p.m. witnessed an unusual car accident on Thursday. This did not happen in the nearby street, but directly in the fairway of the adjacent river Wien.
As the Viennese professional fire brigade reported to krone.at, a construction company’s pick-up truck was driving along the river near the Meidling U4 station. Apparently test drilling has to be carried out for the construction of the metro.
However, it is likely that the car was driven at a significantly overspeed – including the trailer. The result: the driver suddenly lost control of the steering wheel. The car slid into the water of the Vienna River and overturned on its side.
Slightly injured accident victims
According to a spokesman for the fire service, who were alerted at 12.35 pm, the occupants were able to leave the accident vehicle on their own. All those affected suffered minor injuries, which were treated at the scene by the rescue team.
Meanwhile, the fire brigade has taken the pick-up out of the water and put it back on its wheels. The leaked oil was bound.
