At least two people were killed and several injured in a cable car accident in the Indian state of Jharkhand on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, 48 people were still trapped in at least a dozen gondolas since Sunday’s incident.
Rescue workers and the army rescued passengers who were still trapped in the gondolas on Sunday and Monday using helicopters, among other things. The exact reason why several gondolas collided at the Trikut Hills is still unclear, Indian media reported Monday, citing officials.
So far, a technical defect has been considered the cause of the accident. Cable car workers fled after the incident, the Indian news agency PTI reported.
