The Super Drone – Chasing Tugs with an Unmanned Helicopter

The superdrone passed the suitability test in the Schachendorf region with flying colors – whether day or night, the remote-controlled helicopter in the Oberwart district reliably delivered real-time images via the camera. During the trial run, the Ministry of the Interior pursued the goal of developing a practical operation with various police units, fire brigades, mountain rescue services, water rescue services and the population and to simulate it as practically as possible in a real environment. With a clear conscience, routine police operations with the drone can now be launched, including to prevent illegal border crossings and to take targeted measures against people smugglers.

Technical miracle
The border is controlled for kilometers from a maximum of 120 meters from the air. The Camcopter S-100 from Schiebl is 3.2 meters long and 1.5 meters wide and can last up to ten hours with an extra tank, even in bad weather conditions. No runway is required. The range is up to 200 kilometers.

However, this drone is not exclusively used for border area surveillance – the fields of application related to public security are extensive. For example, images and video from a crime scene can be useful for police work or help in searching for missing persons or accident locations. It should also be noted that “regular” police drones have become indispensable to the fire service in dealing with hazardous substances and aerial reconnaissance in the event of fires, oil spills and natural disasters.
