Officers from the Hohenau ad March police station in Lower Austria’s Gänserndorf district were astonished on Sunday when they seized more than 100 firearms from the apartment of an 80-year-old. But that wasn’t all.
During the search, 30 bayonets, sabers and knives were found, as well as more than 12,500 ammunition, some of which were banned. In the end, the investigators secured a submachine gun, 76 pistols and revolvers, and 30 rifles from various manufacturers and calibers in the Gänserndorf district and also in Vienna-Meidling.
Temporary gun ban
According to the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (LVT), the man is said to be a collector. The 80-year-old is suspected of acting violently against his 75-year-old wife on September 6. She was unharmed after the incident. He was given a temporary arms ban.
The officials continue to investigate possible backers that may be linked to crimes against the gun law. The 80-year-old was reported.
