Behind the resignation of Lizz Trus UK has a new prime minister Rishi Sunak. He is the first Hindu to rule the UK and the only one to have the support of over 100 Conservative MPs. But where does Rishi Sunak come from? What track record do you have in British politics?
The now Prime Minister began his steps into politics as a Conservative candidate for Richmond in October 2014. In 2015 he was elected MP with a 36.2% majority and until 2017 he was a member of the Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs .
In 2015, he became known to the conservative right, and in 2016 he supported the Brexit referendum. Thanks to this, Boris Johnson appointed him Chief Secretary of the Treasury in July 2019.
In February 2020, he was named Chancellor of the Exchequer and was to be the reassurance to many families fearful of the global pandemic that was going on at the time. In March of that year, Sunak pledged to do everything in his power to help people who have been financially damaged by the pandemic. During his time as an economics politician, he was praised for his job protection plan during the pandemic, but was criticized for insufficient assistance to civilians.
Rishi Sunak was fined along with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson for attending an illegal party during the pandemic. He was also criticized and pigeonholed for his wealth, for not being able to put himself in the shoes of the citizens of being aware of their problems.
Now he has to face a historic crisis in the UK.
