Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom today after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.
He will become Downing Street’s third tenant this year, after Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, and the 57th prime minister in the country’s history.
After Liz Truss resigned last week, only Sunak received the necessary 100 messages of support from his fellow Conservatives in the House of Commons.
In his first appearance since 10 Downing Street, he has said his government’s priority will be “economic stability” and restoring “confidence” in the UK. In any case, he has warned that “difficult decisions” lie ahead.
