A 16-year-old has been shot dead in Sweden. The teen was found lifeless late Tuesday evening on a bike path in the small town of Sandviken, about 160 kilometers northwest of Stockholm, and was pronounced dead in hospital overnight, police said Wednesday morning.
Sweden has long had a problem with criminal gangs, especially gun crime. More people have been shot dead in the Scandinavian EU country this year than ever before in a year – the 16-year-old is at least the 54th fatality since the start of the year.
The new Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has pledged to give top priority to the fight against serious crime and gangs. New money and new laws will come for this, he announced in the parliament in Stockholm on Wednesday morning. Prevention must go hand in hand with fighting crime, it said.
