Great prospects for the autumn break: October remains exceptionally mild – with a gust of subtropical air. Some people still have to prepare for winter now.
“We can look forward to excellent mountain weather, because there is still no snow on many hiking trails,” says Alpine Club legend Fritz Macher of the “Austria” section in view of the current Ubimet forecast: the meteorologists of the private weather service do indeed have sunny and mild views for the clear heights to be climbed. As a result, temperatures are sometimes ten degrees higher than the long-term average.
We owe this – according to Ubimet chief meteorologist Manfred Spatzierer – to the “fixed general weather situation with high pressure influence over the Mediterranean and the heart of the continent”. The phenomenon he recorded: October was milder in the mountains than September.
And it will probably get even warmer: because now with high “Zacharias” even more summer heat comes into play. It even sent us a blast of subtropical air on National Day. Temperatures of 25 degrees are also possible.
The weather forecast for the next few days:
A small but bearable drawback: in the lowlands (especially in the northeast) the tendency to fog increases due to the blocked high.
Nevertheless, Caritas is preparing for winter
But because cold and frost will control the country this year like the Amen in prayer, Caritas is still preparing for the approaching winter. Among other things, more advice is given on the special “cold phone”. Volunteers are still being sought for this advisory service so that no one has to sleep on the street on a bitterly cold night, given the currently exploding need.
