Only about a quarter of Austrians want to accept cooler temperatures this winter to save energy. Even fewer respondents would accept a temperature of 19 degrees. This is according to a study by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
More than 28,000 people aged 15 and over from 30 countries, including Austria, took part. Nearly a quarter of Austrians indicated that they could no longer afford the heating of their homes. Just as many respondents want to accept cooler temperatures this winter to save energy.
However, it is likely that a majority would agree that energy consumption should be reduced. According to the survey, 80 percent of people in this country fear a global catastrophe if energy consumption and consumption are not drastically reduced in the coming years. To achieve this, the majority of respondents argue for more taxes on environmentally harmful activities such as air travel.

However, they tend to think that Austria’s climate targets cannot be met. Nearly two-thirds (69 percent) believe that the Austrian government will not succeed in significantly reducing CO₂ emissions by 2030. The government’s efforts are too slow.
Slightly more — nearly three-quarters (74 percent) — said they feel climate change in their daily lives. 47 percent rightly named climate change as their number one concern. According to them, a green turn could be accelerated by the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine.
