The City of Vienna has set up a “Cybercrime Helpline” for the initial support of victims of Internet crime. Interested parties can call toll-free 01 / 4000 4006 for initial information and recommendations for action. If there are still questions, the employees will refer you to the right professional advice center, says alderman for digitization Ulli Sima (SPÖ). The number is available on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“Fraud on the Internet is one of the disadvantages of digitization. With the free ‘Cybercrime Helpline’, we provide a simple and reliable first point of contact that provides rapid support for suspected cybercrime,” Sima emphasizes in a press release. “Digital attacks are on the rise – one in three young Viennese people has unfortunately already experienced with phishing attacks, cyberbullying, online stalking, etc.”, reports Jörg Neumayer, spokesperson for digitization of the SPÖ Vienna.
The “Cybercrime Helpline” is run by the city service. Due to the complexity of the subject, there is no longer any in-depth advice or remote technical or (criminal) legal diagnoses. Reference is made to the offer of various organizations with professionally trained experts. These include the Internet Ombudsman, the Consumer Protection Department of the Vienna Chamber of Labour, ZARA’s #AgainstHassimNetz Advisory Center – Civic Courage and Anti-Racism, and the 24-hour emergency helpline for women of the City of Vienna.
