4 days in the woods – “It got pretty chilly in the morning”

Date:

Peter Pavlicek (72) from Wilhering (Upper Austria) survived four days in the Mühlviertel after a fall. His emergency ration: dates and water. His summary: “It got pretty chilly in the morning”.

It was his best present: at the age of 72, Peter Pavlicek from Wilhering was found by a firefighter during a search in a wooded area in Alberndorf/Riedmark. After the Parkinson’s patient was helpless in a slump for four days because his illness could no longer escape – we reported.

Surprisingly fit
Peter Pavlicek is surprisingly fit, if still a little weak, when the “Krone” visits him at Kepler University Hospital. He only has numerous abrasions on his upper body. He says of his accident: “I have been a mushroom picker for 50 years, I often walk in this area. On Monday, in the early darkness, I could not see exactly where I was walking. It was difficult for me to take the right step. I fell and then got stuck in a funnel-shaped depression. I couldn’t get out because of Parkinson’s disease. I tried to crawl out, but I couldn’t.”

Fortunately there was emergency ration
So Pavlicek was stuck. His cell phone was in the car parked about 200 yards away on the edge of the woods. Fortunately, he had emergency rations of medicine, two bottles of half a liter of water each, and a packet of dates. Initially, the academic (technical mathematics) expected to be found soon. An optimism that was not justified.

Waited three nights and four days for rescue
Pavlicek had to endure a total of three nights and four days in his plight. He only wore hiking boots, pants, Leiberl and tank top. Weren’t the nights terribly cold? He says: “It worked. It didn’t get quite chilly until very early in the morning.”

Incidentally, during his tour, which turned into torture, Pavlicek found “two to three kilos of parasol, porcini mushrooms and red foot”. This year he no longer looks: “The season is over.”
