A 22-year-old reportedly threatened a Snapchat friend that she would release a revealing photo if she didn’t start a relationship with him. Rarely, but such private disputes can end up in court. Was it a heavy compulsion?
Anyone who entrusts intimate footage to an informal online acquaintance quickly finds herself in a difficult situation: a seller of Turkish descent (22) met a young woman on the Snapchat platform and met her “three or four times”. “Then there was an exchange of photos, one of which was more revealing,” the prosecutor described at the outset. When the woman decided that she did not want to become the seller’s regular girlfriend, he is said to have acknowledged this with the alleged heavy coercion: he will now forward the “topless photo” to the woman’s family.
“You can’t even see the head”
“You can’t even see the head in the photo. It wouldn’t even be clear whether their own parents would recognize their daughter,” the lawyer objected. And the 22-year-old protested that despite this threat, he didn’t have a revealing photo. “But when you are questioned by the police, there is always the question of forwarding photos,” the judge told the man. He remained clueless and couldn’t even give his own cell phone number.
Alleged victim did not appear
The victim could have helped clarify the matter, but the woman preferred to be in Turkey on the day of the trial. She withdrew the coercion charge in August after a few days. Voluntarily? Her testimony has been removed from the files. In the end, the judge was left with only one acquittal. But she gave the young man a message: “A woman’s no is a no.”
