Spectacular traffic accident on Friday morning in Thörl (Styria Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district): A truck driver came off the main road and fell into the Thörlbach stream that flows past. Miraculously, the driver escaped with minor injuries.
The truck driver probably also loaded many guardian angels: After getting off the B 20 and falling into the Thörlbach with his articulated truck, the man was able to free himself and climb onto the bank. He was taken to hospital to be examined for his minor injuries.
Rescue by special crane
However, the recovery turned out to be complicated for the Thörl volunteer fire brigade: a special crane from a towage company had to be requested first to recover the enormous tractor and trailer. To keep the water level as low as possible, the weir in the Thörlbach was also closed.
Fortunately, the truck’s diesel tank was undamaged, so no fuel escaped into the stream. The highway was closed to all traffic for a total of two hours and only one lane was open for six hours.
